Our own fears and weaknesses can cripple and shackle us.
The truth is that we sometimes imprison ourselves by our own attitudes and fears.
As Pogo put it in the comics, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” We have the means and power (through Christ) to do anything that we want, yet we live in a self-made prison, a prison of our own choosing, a prison constructed of fear. We lock ourselves in a room with open doors. How do we get out of this prison?
We can give Christ permission to set us free. Christ sets us free by showing us that “perfect love drives out fear” (I John 4:18) Love is the freeing agent. When love is strong enough, it will cast out our fear and bring you out of whatever imprisons you.
Note: To love sometimes requires us to let go of those things and people who are toxic or who may draw us into situations and circumstances that imprisons the both of us. To love sometimes requires that we give up the control of a situation to our higher power.
